Awhile back, while reading a tutorial on how to draw, I came across a piece of advice that I glossed over. The artist had written, next to a few sketches of a figure, "You can memorize a line, but then you just know the line. You need to know why it is there in order to be able to draw the figure correctly."
I took his advice and did some research on human anatomy, and it did indeed improve my abilities (although I still have quite a ways to go). However, what I did not quite understand was the true wisdom behind his words. "You can memorize a line, but then you just know the line."
